SKI ACTIVITIES NEEDS
YOUR HELP
RSC’s Ski Activities committee
is involved in organising and co-
ordinating all the ski and snowboard
related activities that RSC is involved
with on the mountain.
This includes the school holidays,
squads, interclub racing, the Haensli
Cup and much more.
Helping out with these activities
is fun and gives you great sense of
ownership and understanding of how
the Club works.
Some of the jobs are just small
(phoning people or collecting money
etc) and some are bigger but all are
very rewarding.
I love watching young kids grow
and develop their skiing and personal
skills, to become knowledgeable and
independent as they grow up.
Being part of ski activities allows us
to share all these experiences and is a
great way to get involved in Club life.
So, if you are a regular to the
mountain….
And, if you have a bit of spare time
and would like to get involved, please
let me know.

STEFAN SPORLI
We regret to advise the sudden death
in France of Stefan Spörli, a member
of a prominent RSC family.
Stefan was an amazing man, as
a mountain guide, climber and ski
patroller. One day at Ruapehu we saw
him climb to the top of the Pinnacles
solo at dawn.
Most of his climbing was in the
French Alps and western United States
but he described his wildest experience
as a month long ski tour in Mongolia.
After years of ski patrol work in
New Zealand and the US, Stefan was
lately based in Chamonix (France).
Recently he acted as a stunt double
and safety of±cer during ±lming of the
blockbuster movie Everest.
We offer the condolences of RSC to
his family.
JOHN GEDDES
We regret to report the recent death of
John Geddes who joined RSC in 1951
and was a regular skier since then.
John and his brother Andrew often
provided music for RSC functions and
they can be seen in the centennial book,
singing along and playing guitars at the
Club’s 50th year jubilee celebrations at
the Lodge in 1963.
John was also a great help with the
Club’s sound systems over the years.
We extend our sympathy to the
Geddes family.
SUMMER CHAIRLIFTS
RAL reopened the Centennial
and Waterfall Express chairlifts on
November 14th for its “Summer
Magic” promotion, and the lifts will
stay open until April 30th 2016.
The Knoll Ridge Café will also
be open at this time. See RAL’s
website www.mtruapehu.com for more
information.
