DOC says that in the interim, river crossing
access will be marked to the most practical point
on the river.
However, hikers are advised to be careful of
loose rocks in the river channel and not to attempt
a crossing in flood conditions.
A 39-year-old Taupo resident died at Ruapehu
in September after he fell into
Crater Lake
.
A search was mounted after he failed to return
from skiing alone and his body was found in the lak
e.
We are sad to report the death of
Geoff Wales
,
aged 77.
He was an RSC member for many years and was
very active on the Ski Racing committee, as well
as being Chief of Race for National Circuit races
when they were run at Whakapapa.
Geoff’s sons Geoff Jnr and Michael were
excellent ski racers. We extend the Club’s
sympathy to Geoff’s family.
RAL says an advantage of
night skiing
has
been to “smooth out the rush” at the end of the
day, taking away some of the congestion on the
Bruce Road.
Similarly the
First Tracks
option has helped
spread out the arrival of people.
The deadline for the March Bulletin will be
Friday February 23rd
. All items should be with
the Editor by then.
