Tracks and night skiing all season long.
Top o’ the Bruce redevelopment worth $20-$25
million
is in the pipeline, consisting of a building
to house the proposed aerial tram drive station,
as well as a café and retail. Six current buildings
will go.
Plans for Turoa
include upgrading the
Movenpick chair to a high-speed lift, possibly a
chondola, and replacing the Giant Café.
The Whanganui River
has been given the same
legal status as a person under new law passed by
Parliament.
The legislation ends a long running battle by the
indigenous people to get the protection they think
the river deserves.
The river will be represented by one person from
the Māori tribes and one from the Crown, and can
be represented in court cases in an arrangement
similar to a legal trust.
The Downhill Ski Club
says it has made the
historic decision to sell its lodge at the foot of the
national downhill slopes at Whakapapa.
It is looking for a buyer with the resources to run
it successfully as an all year round adventure base,
training centre and retreat lodge with fantastic
views and a position of splendid isolation.
A man in a hiking group was skittled by a falling
rock on
Mt Ngauruhoe
and was sent tumbling 50
metres down the mountain in April.
He was not severely hurt but needed a rescue by
the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter which winched
him on board and flew him to Rotorua Hospital.
The deadline for the September Bulletin will be
Friday August 11th.
All items should be with the Editor in Wellington
by that date.
