DESCRIPTION: Have you experienced Turoa in the summer? There are beautiful valleys and 
 striking volcanic features tucked away nearby. Come for a wander up to the 
 Wintergarden, then a scramble over the rocky terrain out to the east to see
  the botanical alpine treasures hidden there nestled in the amazing lava fl
 ows. You will see a completely different perspective – and we will tell you
  some stories on the way. We may see a North Island edelweiss but no guaran
 tees. If we have clear weather, the vista over the Rangataua Lava flow and 
 out towards the Waimarino are stunning. This trip is led by two ex DOC staf
 f, now local conservationists and mountain enthusiasts; one with an interes
 t in the local history and botany, and the other a policy and land tenure e
 xpert
